Operatives of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Tuesday arrested a public-school teacher who allegedly offered P50 million online to anyone who could assassinate President Rodrigo Duterte.
Ronnel Mas, the 25-year-old public school teacher said on tears that it was not his intention to do it after being arrested in Zambales.
Based on the report, the suspect made a post on social media on May 5 telling people that he is going to pay P50 to anyone who could kill Duterte.
“Ang unang Cheneck ko yong Twitter account nya and I found it deactivated already.
Humihingi po ako ng tawad sa mahal na pangulo.” the teary-eyes suspect who is in full regret told officials.
The suspect also said his post was based on the president’s speech earlier offering P50 million bounty to people who report COVID-19 violators. He also said people should not do what he did.
NBI Deputy Director Atty. Antonio Pagatpat said giving reward to kill the president is an extremely serious crime.
The suspect tried to destroy his mobile phone but authorities were able to recover it.
The suspect will face multiple charges including inciting to sedition, a serious crime, and also some cybercrime violations.
“I’m sending the warning again.
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said the suspect will be given the chance to defend himself.
